Artist Statement

Intent and purpose:

To create a piece of music that can challenge listeners to think about what they are listening to.
There are several genres that can be recognized in the song - punk, alternative rock, britpop - all of which are quite distinct.

I added some heavy rock/metal elements to the song by adding distortion and overdrive to some part of the vocal track (which was inspired by the ending of Muscle Museum by Muse), further expanding and increasing the genres I have included in the piece.

Process Statement

  • Share regarding the selection, plan, design, process, production and adjustments. (Process Statement)

In the beginning, I had a lot of different ideas as to which songs to use in my mashup. In the end, I chose a few songs that have a very similar chord progression. (iii, V, II, vi)

I have planned to use different segments of songs (vocals from Muscle Museum by Muse, Wonderwall by Oasis) overlaying the base track (Boulevard of Broken Dreams by Green Day). I also experimented with other vocals from different songs, but in the end, it didn't work out as well as I thought it would.

Design-wise, I used pan on the vocal part of the songs, so the listener can accurately point out different songs I used for my mash-up. Also, I have added some reverb to the vocals, and distortion as well (climax of the song).

Key: F# Minor
